Q: How far is it to the the Food Lion and Movie Theater?

A: The Food Lion and Movie theater are located in a small shopping mall that is within walking distance (3 blocks).

Q: Can I walk to the beach?
A: Yes, the next Cul-de-Sac has a bridge that crosses the lake. From there it is several hundred feet to the beach.

Q: Can I park my car at the beach?
A: Yes, 1/2 mile south at the end of Avon, there is free parking at the beach side.

Q: What can the kids do?
A: There is a small water park in Rodanthe (15 miles north) with water slides and go-carts. There are also 3 miniature Golf courses. 1. Avon Miniature Golf. 2. Cool Wave Ice Cream and Miniature Golf in Buxton.
 3. Frisco Golf and Go-Carts (approx 8 miles).

You can visit the lighthouse. Take a ferry to Ocracoke, home of Blackbeard the pirate. You can take in a Movie, take the kids fishing on the Pier or fly a kite on the beach.

Q: How far is it to the "Canadian Hole"?
A: The Canadian Hole is a shallow area on the Pamlico Sound that is great for windsurfing. There is public parking and restroom facilities. It is approximately 2 miles south on route 12.

Q: Can I drive my vehicle on the beach?
A: Yes, but please use designated entries, and be sure that you have 4 wheel drive. It might be a good idea to let some air out of your tires for good traction. If you don't feel like trashing your vehicle on the beach you can let the guys at Bob's Horse Tours trash theirs. They offer guided horse tours to see the ponies and a chance to learn about local ecology of the northern beaches.

Q: Are boats of any kind allowed on the lake?

A: Non-motorized boats, inflatables and kayaks are permitted. There are rental places in the area that can provide these items for your enjoyment.

Q: Are there any video rental places nearby?
A: There is a video store in Avon, however, there are over 100 vhs/dvd's in the house.

Q: Can bicycles be rented?

A: Yes! With plenty of room for great biking, there is a bike rental store right near the Food Lion.
